According to an article in the WSJ Tech. Section, there are indications that 3Com intends to spin off more of its divisions and unlock many of its assets in similar fashion to Cabletron Systems. If CS's actions are any indication of WS disposition toward such actions then we should look for a surge in 3Com's stock price. Isn't this what many skeptics have been arguing, that the sum of the individual entities are far greater than the whole.

If this does happen I am told it will be disclosed in Monday's Conference call after the release of earnings.

Predicated on the aforementioned being true, my estimations of 3Com's value sans Palm should be given more credence.

It has also come to my attention that the company intends to continue to leverage its brand recognition into the emerging markets, where growth and margins are substantially greater than its' legacy products. If we are to believe the company's own statements then we can surmise that this area according to the 2nd. quarters earnings contributed approx. $350 million with sequential growth Q on Q at 47% and Yr. on Yr. at 2000%.

Hopefully this will unlock many of 3Com's hidden assets and allow WS to begin valuing the company relative to the rest of the market.
