My take on HDR was that it could be more beneficial to VARL as voice and data might be split into 2 separate spectrums and thus require 2 sets of VCO's in each phone as opposed to 1. My expectation was that the data related VCO's required tighter tolerances which is good for VARL. Also, more sets of VCO's mean reduced power consumption is even more important. Having said this, I freely admit that my tech. knowledge is minimal so I could be completely wrong -- hope I'm not.
