Tony I can't answer you specifically. However from my recollection,ÿ
my understanding is that ALA is planning to shed all of it's slow growthÿ
businesses and focus solely on Telecoms. It is also committed
to boosting up it's optical networking division.
The shedding of it's slow growth assets is being hampered/slowed byÿ
the Socialist French Government who still believes
in cradle to grave nurturing and protection of overcompensatedÿ
unionized workers and assorted employees, 35hours/week work week
yada yada yada,

I'm new to Alcatel - being a default shareholder through my NN purchase last year. Looking over some press releases last quarter I noticed that one of the big
differences between ALA and NT/LU is that it has a huge slow growth business in Energy Cable. LU recently announced a divestiture of it's slower growth
businesses to ensure that top line growth could be maintained longer term. Does anyone believe Alcatel will make a similar step to ensure it's shareprice is not
adversely affected by it's slower growth business? If not I believe it might be hard to justify similar valuations to NT & LU for ALA.
