TOKYO, Mar 16, 2000 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- Toshiba Corp (TSE:6502) will launch a range of Internet-linked mobile audio/visual equipment from this spring to lift overall digital home appliance sales to 200 billion yen (US$1.88 billion) in fiscal 2000 and 400 billion yen for the year through March 2003, the company says.

The company aims to capitalise on the rapid spread of cellular phones to lift its home appliance business.

The electric and electronic equipment maker will from March 25 market mobile audio players that use SD memory cards, which protect copyright, digital video cameras with high image quality, mobile DVD players and video cassette players for notebook personal computers.

The products will conform to the Bluetooth wireless communications standards for data transmission.

Toshiba is aiming for 20 billion yen in sales from the new items in the first year and 50 billion yen in fiscal 2002.

On April 1, it will establish a division of 300 staff within an in-house company responsible for digital home appliances to handle the planning, development, manufacturing and marketing of the mobile equipment.
