Onsat And Wi-Lan To Deliver Integrated Satellite Based Broadband Wireless Service, Joint Technology & Marketing Initiative Announced
CALGARY, ALBERTA--Onsat.net Canada Inc.(``OnSat,' the ``Company') (``ONS':CDNX) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Wi-LAN Inc. (``WIN':TSE), a leading innovator of wireless data communications products and technology and OnSat Network Communications, Inc. (an affiliated company that owns and operates the Company's satellite hub facilities in Salt Lake City, Utah).
OnSat is a satellite based wireless broadband service provider deploying satellite service and acting as an integrator for customers who would like to deploy their own broadband wireless services. With the OnSat/Wi-LAN integrated solution, customers will now have both the ``first 47,000 mile' backbone connection through OnSat's satellite service and the ``last 5 miles' from their satellite earth stations to many individual locations using Wi-LAN products.
According to David Molinaro, President and CEO for OnSat, ``This agreement is a significant advance for everyone. Our customers now will have complete flexibility to have an end-to-end wireless connection to the Internet, voice and video services from any building in roughly a 15 mile-wide area and use only one satellite earth station. They'll save money and get a better system.'
The Wi-LAN products currently provide from 4.5 mbs up to 30 mbps connection speed using Wi-LAN's patented W-OFDM technology and spread-spectrum technology that is a natural fit with the OnSat satellite connectivity system.
The agreement targets aggressive deployment of combined satellite and Wi-LAN service solutions in North, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Hawaii but also provides for geographic expansion to other areas of the world as quickly as OnSat's satellite coverage expands.
