NEW DELHI: Infotech giant Wipro Corporation today announced its foray into residential internet services market from the next financial year via its joint venture with Royal Dutch Telecom (KPN), aiming to be among the top three net services companies.

"Wipro Net is scheduled to start the residential market business from the next financial year," the Wipro Net spokesperson told PTI, adding the new managing director T.K. Kurien would spearhead the company's internet foray, taking over from ex-chief executive officer Anand Talwai.

Wipro Net is Rs 2,200 crore Wipro Corporation's joint venture with the eight billion dollar Dutch telecom operator Royal Dutch Telecom. It currently provides a host of internt-based services for corporate clients.

"We have already test-marketed consumer internet services in select cities and will formally launch our services early next fiscal," the Wipro Net spokesperson added, declining to divulge total investment on offering these services in India.

Wipro Net was targeting a slot among the top three Internet Service Providers (ISPs) by banking upon its connectivity to KPN's international Internet Protocol (IP) network, she said.

Wipro Infotech obtained the national Internet Service Provider (ISP) license in December 1998, and Wipro Net was spun off as the internet services arm of the parent company in April last year, reports PTI.
