Hi,
Power4 is PowerPC architecture and instruction set but understand that the chip is being designed (and paid for) by the IBM Server Group and is intended for use in RS6000 and AS400. Short answer is that I don't believe the chip would be usable by Apple in its present form since the bus structure has been changed and there is no support for the graphics extension (whats it called AltaVec or something like that?) that they use.

That said, anything and everything is for sale from IBM these days and I'm sure if Apple wanted to pay for it some group at IBM would be willing to look at doing a design for them with the necessary changes. But I doubt it would be cheap.

Thanks for the concern about my car, it didn't actually turn out as bad as I feared, damage is minor. But when I got home my kids were all excited to tell me about the funnel cloud they saw right up near the intersection of 183 and 620. Thats a little too close for comfort.

Hope this helped..
