This playing around with Marginability and margin percentages on a day-by-day basis certainly hits me as pure manipulation...being an old commodity trader, I know how the exchanges used to raise rates to squeeze out the little guys when one of their "big guys" or members was in trouble or wanted to buy something on the cheap. I seriously think the SEC should look into this "dark side" of margin rates...oh by-the-way every time this happened in the futures, you ultimately wanted to own whatever they were doing the manipulation to..case in point, they raised the margin on Palladium higher than the contract value (unheard of!), the metal has at least doubled since then.
