Would it be naive for me as a man to assume woman focus most often on "romantic" things in their diaries? I would assume there'd be lots of stuff like "I met this guy today named..."

I think you might be, but again it depends very much on the individual woman.

I am inclined to believe, though, that if Suzanne were involved with a married man who'd promised to leave his wife for her, and now seemed to be backing off, she'd have written something about it. Though again, not necessarily.

Again, my main sticking point is that while we all keep things secret, many things that we keep secret didn't start out that way.

Yes, I agree. Though on the other hand, many things that don't seem to be important at the time turn out to be very important later on. Whether we're talking about a married man or not, it could be that she had some encounter that was initially fairly meaningless to her. Then when it became important, it also became important to keep it secret.

Do you think someone like Suzanne would agree to this, from the very start?

In most cases you know the guy's married from the start. Usually you meet him in some quite ordinary way, and know him for awhile (often without imagining that he has any interest in you) before Romance rears its head...
