New Delhi, March 17: For those who could not afford to get to a cellular phone or a computer for sending an e-mail, evolving technology has an answer: you can now send an e-mail without charge on a toll-free phone.
In what is claimed to be the first service of its kind in the country, the Rs. 50-crore enterprise Thind Infotec (private) Limited has offered subscribers with an access password to just call up on a toll-free land-line to dictate the message after verification of the identification.
The revenues of the company come from the advertisement jingles that are played while the identification process is on (which may normally be 15-20 to twenty seconds). However, the major part of the income will come from registrations and monthly subscriptions, for those sending more than 150 messages a month. The monthly charge will be around Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 a month.
Dalbir Thind, CEO and Managing Director of the Delhi-based company said that the investments have been Rs. 2.5 crore in the venture and he would raise the equity by April 13 to Rs. 8 crore. This will be raised through going in for venture capital. "Certain mergers and acquisitions are also in the pipeline," he said.
The Thind Infotec Project, to be known as E-Tel M, is part of the Hydel Constructions Limited, a private company involved in building and developing hydroelectric projects.
The user of E-Tel M will have access to E-Tel voicemail, chat, Net, mail, fax, and pager just by making a phone call, or by going on the Internet set. A subscriber can also ask for his e-mail to be read out to him on telephone, without having to go to a computer. He said E-Tel M is accessible in two versions: computer telephony interface (CTI) and web-enabled. "E-Tel M will combine the power of the Web and the convenience of the telephone to give communication capabilities without having to own a personal computer or fax machine, or even a telephone".
