No, they're saying that RDRAM yields are pukey (they are), so
every wafer that starts as RDRAM will cut PC memory bit output
compared with what would have happened with all SDRAM.
Note that they aren't saying this in their RMBS writeups.
-g- Yes, Micron is pro-DDR/anti-Rambus. They feel that
Rambus's penalties (latency, yield, royalties, heat)
are not worth the benefits (bus efficiency, granularity,
pin count). To them (and, FD, me), DDR- and DDR-II-DRAM
will match most of Rambus's advantages with few of its
disadvantages, and that on-die embedded SDRAM is a fine,
granular solution where DDR's inappropriate (I'm less sure here). As for
MU puts, I'll be buying some on Monday or Tuesday, assuming
they're up days for the stock running into earnings/split.
If MU doesn't run, I'll probably nibble anyways, hoping for
one last ramp after the release itself. -mb |
