M/C, Visa, the banks and the online vendors want you to feel pretty comfortable with the risk. But when the rubber hits the road - when the thief makes off with your credit card # - their attitude is considerably different.

Getting them to remove fraudulent charges and the interest that accrues on those charges takes considerable time and patience. If you send your great white shark after them, you will be out his fee, unless you want to roll the dice in court.

As more people get burned, the number of folks who hesitate to buy online will grow geometrically. I believe this partially explains the cover up.
