Interesting spread sheet that you uncovered from the Quantum archives, thanks. As to survival I guess we have to note that attrition comes in many forms. APM's BK, Seagate's headcount, Yamaha/Hitachi/Samsung's retreat (from the head business), TDK's acquisition of Headway, are all forms of sector downsizing. I guess the question that remains is whether the market can support two major independents (RDRT and TDK).

I still say that bandwidth is the ultimate key. Whether its a set top box hooked to a cable or a huge disk farm hooked to the backbone, bandwidth is required to enable most of the applications that will drive the "new economy".
