100% mobile coverage of Australia by mid-2000 with Vodafone Globalstar
Thursday, 6 January 2000

Vodafone Globalstar welcomes media reports of comments by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon John Anderson MP, that it will not be possible to fill in every mobile coverage gap in Australia until satellite technology becomes freely available.

Vodafone will be the only mobile phone carrier to offer the unbeatable combination of a digital/satellite service providing 100 per cent geographic coverage of Australia when it launches its Vodafone Globalstar mobile service in March 2000.

"The launch of Vodafone Globalstar will mean people in rural and regional Australia will shortly have access to a fully integrated, quality satellite mobile service providing 100 per cent coverage of Australia's landmass and its territorial waters," said Vodafone Globalstar Director, Mr Peter Bolger.

"Soon, Vodafone Globalstar customers will be able to make or receive mobile calls, send faxes and messages or transfer data even when in the most remote parts of the country."

The Vodafone Globalstar handsets can be used in any part of the country. When in areas serviced by Vodafone?s existing network, the handset communicates via digital, however once in more remote areas the phone switches to satellite mode.
