I think you are missing something more fundamental. The issues isn't really one of murder but one of just who or what is a person. Those who choose to persecute are most successful if they can first sell the notion that the target group should not be given human status. Following from that, therefore there are no rights to defend. There is no "person" to suffer murder. The pro choice faction won when they defined the issue as one of choice, not one of personhood. Whoever wins the battle of defining the issue has already won the war.
