I bought into SPC last year thinking that for sure it would at least double but SPC has had nothing but losses for the last few years. They introduced a new graphics product last year called ASAP and have been trying to make inroads into the internet add-in market by trying to incorporate some of ASAP intelligent graphic software features to the web browsers but I don't think they've made much progress on this.

I used to work for SPC and their stock price at one point reached a high in the mid thirties when Harvard Graphics was the number one selling graphics software package on the market. Fred Gibbons, the then president, made a huge miscalculation on windows 3.0, and so waited something like 6 months before they finally had a windows version out and by then it was just too late. Powerpoint now dominates this market even though in many ways HG is a better product and always has been (can you tell I worked for them?).

I believe this company has been on the market for a long time but no one has really expressed a serious interest in buying them. If they do get bought out, SPC's stock price probably won't rise more than a few points at the most since with all the losses this company isn't worth all that much right now. They tried to get IBM to buy them at one point but that never materialized.

I'm still holding onto this company just in case they either turn things around and introduce some hot web graphic stuff or they in fact do get bought out.

In any event, the stock price can't get any lower than 2 1/4 so the downside potential is minimal but the upside potential is good.
