Haim: Excellent post! I would add though that CPI methodologies were changed a few years ago under heavy pressure from the financial community. The mantra was that the CPI was "overstating" inflation. A lot of BS as we can now see clearly. What is frightening here is the politicization of economic data. Trying to get the best picture of reality now is secondary to doing anything necessary to keep the bubble floating a little longer.
