ONI systems IPO

Optical Networks can see the future, and it's all about speed. The company makes fiber-optic equipment specifically designed for metropolitan and regional networks. Its Dynamic Transport System combines an optical network operating system (OPTX), an inter-network communications protocol (OLMP), and a transfer platform (ONLINE family) that features add-drop capabilities and modular dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), which increases the capacity of fiber networks. Customers include COLT Telecom and Williams Communications. Mohr, Davidow Ventures owns about 14% of Optical Networks, which plans to change its name to ONI Systems. Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers owns another 12%.
