Justin, as we've discussed many times before, the key to Cisco's Gorillahood is their software. Does the fact that packets of data are being sent by photons rather than electrons obviate the need for networks to communicate with one another? If not, then Cisco still has a lock.

Chambers has the Cisco organization trained to understand that they can be out of business in 18 months if they don't stay on top of the game. They are a giant organization that moves with the speed of a small start-up. They have made the integration of acquisitions an art form, and have enough money and unissued stock to buy whatever they need in terms of technology.

I think Cisco is still a Tornado class Gorilla, and that makes them the safest bet in the network plumbing sector.
