This seems to me more likely. More likely yet: he was someone she'd known for some time, but hadn't really given much thought to. She'd have considered him a harmless "friend", and so wouldn't have felt the need to tell anyone about their meeting.

As Jeff pointed out much earlier: any sane person who strikes up an internet relationship with a terrorist (or something similar) would be NUTS to go to a meeting with him without informing anyone.
