Doug,

I would be willing to bet that there were a number of officers begging to enter that school with total disregard of the risks involved, and I would be further willing to bet that they were not allowed by their supposed superiors.

I recall many accounts during WWII in which all command and control was lost and the battle depended upon Squads or the ramainder of Squads acting independently. Leadership and intellingence really screwed up in the "Battle of the Bulge".

A true fiasco insued in which soldiers acting in small units bore the brunt and acted independly.

I suppose that my thesis here is that the average cop and the average WWII type foot soldier has a better sense than the average leader who listens to intelligence and lawyers.

Further mistakes were made in my mind regarding that battle. To put it simply, they failed to listen to the greatest strategist and tactian that they had--George Patton. Patton recommended a swift movement to cut off and isolate the German forces, but was not listened to and Eisenhower (iron chisler) chose the plodding British method of a frontal push to move them back to their support. Stupid and wasteful.

I know that I diverge here, but there is reason in my diversion.

Lets assume that we have a morally degraded society with many criminals and morally flawed individuals pervading what was formerly a society of peaceful, though strong hard working individuals. How do we protect the peaceful and purge the degraded. Policing all would require great resources, and in my mind is not a logical solution.

The only conclusion that I can reach is training and arming the peaceful. It is a solution that worked in the Old West, and will still work today. Question is who is peaceful? Caveat--Keep the lawyers out of it. Make it simple, like no prior criminal convictions for anything! Resist any attempt to control ownership by peaceful individuals of arms, ammunition, or the means to produce such.

All things are politicised, and all things can be perverted, but the basic question is to whom shall we, the people relinquish the control of this society which we have fought and died for-- Answer-- None but ourselves!!

Never forget that "We the People" rule this country, no mater how oppressed we may be.

Who are the "people" well, that is changeing. I have no fear of that. Honest "people" from any origin will act the same.

Off the Soapbox,

Jack
