I got into NT through their purchase of CLFY. In my mind NT owns the fiber optic telco (is telco the correct term for them?) space right now. LU has the lab but seems to be way behind in bringing their products to market and their management has not planned very well. Of the top 50+ telco fiber optic deals worldwide over this past year NT has won something like 42 of them. Cisco is nowhere to be seen as of yet. Cisco has stated they are still watching the fiber optic market to determine where/when they will enter in full force. They have purchased a few companies but nothing yet that allows them to compete in the big deals against NT and LU. My take in this is that Nortel is building a lead every month that is going to make it harder and harder for LU, let alone Cisco, to enter in and take market share. Right now NT is the up and coming telco king. Right now there is no clear cut king but NT has to be labeled as the prince with the biggest lead. I own NT, no LU or Cisco. If I did own Cisco right now though I would not sell them. Gilder, by the way (I know you all love him <g>) believes that Cisco will be toast in a couple of years. I believe Chambers is too nimble for that but Cisco won't dominate the fiber optic market like they do the router business.
