you have never been so wrong!
I work with "Red" chinese in San Francisco....they believe that one morning real soon we will wake up and find china invading Taiwan....They,"the communist chinese", think that it is a province gone wrong...if they do not take over taiwan, other provinces will want independence....ie tibet,the most westerly province?(moslem)....and they do not want to go the way of the USSR! The leaders of china feel that if they "save" taiwan, they will be known as great leaders in future history books. The chinese people are not afraid of war with the US. They are willing to sacrfice a few hundred thousand soldiers for this noble idea of saving the motherland for future chinese. The two chinese said that if the US has 10 soldiers die in battle they expect Washington will pack up the fleet and go home. They do not feel that The US has enough gumption to last thru a war with china. Remember Vietman? there is a possiblility that if the US goes to war with Taiwan, the military of the island(Taiwan) will not support the present gov't because they have supported the nationalist party for 50 years. Remember that 66% of the population did not vote for the winner.I for one am very happy that I sold my stake in AMAT and CYMI last January. I do not think that the communist gov't gives one rat's ass what will happen to my portfolio when its time to save the people of Taiwan.....Rich

PS we have been in contact with a "card carrying communist" researcher who has gone back to china. we had to keep in touch due to our interest in finishing a scientific paper. until recently --two weeks ago we could e-mail her whenever we wanted to. We have not been able to contact her for the last two weeks? She is a Dr. at the Naval hosp. THe two Drs. in san francisco believe that there is now a blackout in china. There is no more communications from inside china. take this for what is worth.....
