Well, this is mixing environmental apples with lobby oranges. I can be pro-environment and still want influence peddling in Washington curbed across the board. With the current system that neither Gore nor Bush will change, I am behind the environmental lobby -- we need a constant check on the rapaciousness of captitalism, its heedlessness with regard to overdevelopment and spoiling of the land. It's crazy to trust business to care about the environment. I'm all for Republican ways of dealing with the problem, such as buying and selling pollution rights, etc, but I fear the Republicans will just ignore and soft-pedal the issue altogether rather than get serious about it. I haven't read Gore's book--I didn't say I was pro Gore's specific ideas put forth in a book a while back and which he might himself want to modify today, just that I would prefer a pro to an anti-environment Prez. The environment matters. I don't trust the Republicans to care.
