You know .. every time I see somebody complaining about the 10 millisecond switch time, I just shake my head. What's wrong with circuit switching? Is everybody just brainwashed into thinking packet switching for everything?

I don't want 10 milliseconds delay, AFTER I start what I'm doing. If it takes 10 milliseconds to switch into it, WHO CARES? Why would I have to switch after I've located my content? I think we need to stop thinking packet switching if we're going to get anywhere.

Am I the only one who is thinking this way? Is this not the intention of the purely optical network? Why does this question about switch time keep coming up over and over?

If I'm connecting to machines that provides my entire content (EG: 240Hz video of 20 million 32-bit pixels, and 128 Channels of 48Khz Audio) I don't want a single switch to happen after I "dial in." That would alter the latency (assuming the switch would imply a different path) .. even if it happened instantaneously. So I can't see (short of overcoming the speed of light problem) how the switching speed being any faster helps. I see the biggest problem in getting people to understand. PACKET SWITCHING SUCKS!
