WavExpress vs iBlast vs Geocast....
These are musings which I hope others might help me think through-
With the NAB coming up alot of us have been wondering what WavExpress is up to. They have been in super stealth mode since announcing their president, while iBlast and Geocast etc. have been working the PR wires overtime.
Most of the press that iBlast put out recently ( biz.yahoo.com ) centered on the formation of a national network to deliver a wide array of high-speed, over-the-air broadband digital content and services direct to consumers. This digital content will include music, video, games, software, and other applications. Hummm, nothing on security and metering.
Correct me if I am mistaken, but isn't WavExpress's business strategy ".....to develop the technology ( Read as architecture and infrastructure!) to allow content providers to provide secure data broadcast and content?
Isn't then the next step for iBlast, Geocast or anyone else to strike agreements with WavExpress so as to develop the security component of their respective national networks such that a portion, or all of the digital content they 'broadcast' may be secure and that they may charge for its use on a per transaction basis?
Maybe the agreements to create these national networks are in response to what WavExpress has opened up to them. Or, maybe WavExpress has to wait until entities like iBlast have been formed before they are signed up.
Again, WavExpress (like WAVX and it's Embassy) wants to supply the infrastructure to all those broadband digital content providers, not just CBS or AOL . This, like we are finding out with Embassy, takes longer but in the long run could lead to a huge bonanza.
So he said to himself "It's the security and the meter not the content stupid!"
Well I got off on a rant but lets see what this sparks.
Later....Klingerg
