AvantGo announces new CEO

pmn.co.uk

25 January 2000 -- AvantGo, the fast growing developer of mobile information management tools, has
announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer.

Richard Owen replaces Felix Lin as the companies CEO with immediate effect and takes up a position on the
board of directors. Felix Lin, who founded the company with a number of other individuals in 1998, will
become chairman and maintain an active, day to day role at AvantGo. Owen arrives from Dell, where he led
the development of the company's internet presence, a business which is widely recognised as one of the most
successful internet retailing operations and represents over $30m a day in turnover. Owen will be tasked with
developing avantgo.com, the company's hugely popular internet information service which enables users to
download internet content to mobile devices such as hand helds and mobile telephones in a format optimised
for viewing on a small screen. AvantGo will also continue to promote its enterprise product, which has already
been adopted by more than 100 companies, including a number of Fortune 1000 organisations. Owen, who is
originally from England, and Lin will work alongside each other, but Lin will now focus on the company's long
term vision and technology.

"Bringing Richard on board is the high point in a series of strategic management hires that we have made over
the past four months that include a CFO, general counsel and vice president of AvantGo.com. Adding these new
members to our founding team provides AvantGo with a powerful group of incisive individuals who are ready
to realize the full potential of the mobile computing market," commented Felix Lin. "Richard enjoyed an
extremely successful career leading Dell's online efforts, and we are thrilled that he has chosen to bring his
management expertise to AvantGo. I look forward to working closely with him as we push the envelope on our
business goals and technology solutions." Richard Owen added: "The founding team has done an excellent job
of bringing an innovative solution to market and building a strong customer base. I'm committed to taking this
exciting company to the next step and leading the mobile software infrastructure revolution."
