klingerg/WaveXpress vs. iBlast & Geocast
My impression is that iBlast is primarily a content consortium formed by groups of local stations to assure that the big networks and studios do not totally dominate datacasting. The WaveXpress platform is designed to permit each local station to completely customize the mix of digital content which is broadcast. Some content may come from WaveXpress itself, some from the networks, and some could come from organizations like iBlast. It seems to me that an alliance between WaveXpress and iBlast is very probable. This conclusion is reinforced by noting that the iBlast business model appears to assume the presence of an integrated platform which WaveXpress is best positioned to provide.

Geocast appears to be a genuine competitor to WaveXpress, but their current partners are not especially impressive. They want the local station to give them all of the opportunistic bandwidth as a package, and then leave it up to them to fill it. Unlike WaveXpress, where the technology used is proprietary but the platform itself is open, Geocast will also be a closed platform. It appears that Geocast will be advertiser supported, and also cannot offer a practicable pay-per-view model without risking infringement of the Wave broadcast patent. Given the obvious superiority of the WaveXpress technology and business model, I think there is a real question whether Geocast will survive long enough to be a viable competitor.

klingerg, I agree with Bigtim, but the fact is that even SKS has stated that Geocast could run on WaveXpress.
I repeat. Both iBlast and Geocast are potential customers.

So you are right its just that geocast might attempt to go it alone for the moment....

I also hope you took the time to read my post to ekn #10056 as you are prominently mentioned.

Also you might get a chuckle and some info from the Boston Globe's write ups on Gilder, both the man and the futurist posted by themaverick this am on RB:

Finally, do you think anything will be announced around the NAB convention timeframe by WavExpress?

Later...Klingerg
