Time Warner Inc to drop Fla. interactive-TV-WSJ

NEW YORK, May 1 (Reuter) - Time Warner Inc plans to unplug its interactive television network in Orlando, Fla. by year-end, the Wall Street Journal said in its electronic edition on Thursday.

The newspaper said the company was "all but abandoning" plans to employ its cable systems for use in a nationwide shopping and entertainment interactive service.

The network in Florida let subscribers order movies and pizza, and play interactive games, the paper said.

Time Warner was quoted as declining to comment on how much it had invested in the network.

The company had given customers in Orlando cable boxes which were 10 times more powerful than a 486 personal computer, the Journal said. The newspaper said at the end of the year, Time Warner would replace these test boxes with standard cable boxes.

It looks to me like, in 5 years everyone will be using a 32inch PC with Microsoft and Intel at it's core. I wonder if those Guru's have factored that into thier analysis?
