Hi Alex, When Skysailing shutdown the south bay lost a great little glider hill, but its only 2 hours to Calistoga, and the guys that used to run Vaca-aero have relocated to the Nuttree airport. I'll bet they can reach the old ridge a bit West of there still. I spent many an hour working that ridge lift and a good number of times there in wave. Also there's a late afternoon shear line that sets up just Southwest of lagoon valley bowl where one can reliably loiter at about 1500 feet over the freeway. Another place near by is in Holister. I haven't tried that one yet, as I am like you, a bit rusty and distracted by other priorities (Bah!). But Fred is right the desert is best. Douglas County North of Minden is my favorite. Easy to get up, and easy to get back into, been to 18K there several times. The ridge effect on Tahoe East shore is about 5000 feet thick, and on a reasonable day, a few good bumps will put you at the North end of the Whites just SouthWest of Coaldale VOR, and just a shade North of Nirvana. So why am I just sittin' here gabbing about it and not planning a day somewhere this weekend ? When was the last time you flew and where ? Regards, Mike
