I know what you're saying, it would be silly to think IE must be used to register an e-book specifically. Wondering only one thing, deep in that agreement to incorporate GMST technology into Win98, was there a clause to use IE as the specific (if not default) browser?
I have to imagine the negeotiations were not an easy push-over for GMST, and MSFT is not prone to fully concede without trying to angle in in some fashion or another.
A quick report from the field would be appreciated from anyone that has registered an e-book using Netscape browser. More likely, I imagine the firewall has blocked the information from getting to the e-book device. Without knowing the specifics of how the e-book retrieves the code (protocol, port, program method, etc), it's hard to know for sure.
That was pretty well said by the way, the analogy is quite accurate. In turning your fiercest critic (enemy, foe, whatever, etc.) into an ally, you sway the tide in your favor, as well as sway the emotions of those watching the battle from the sidelines.
But, I'm a skeptic when it comes to MSFT, I've never known favors to come without a price, ask IBM, Apple, Stac, the list goes on and on, the tune is always the same. I hope I'm wrong, my goodness gracious I hope I'm wrong, for so many reasons.
