The Sensex closed at 5133, up by 31 points (0.5%). The major gainers in the Sensex were Bajaj Auto, BHEL, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra (all have hit the upper circuit), ICICI, Reliance and Telco. The major losers in the Sensex were Grasim, MTNL (both hit the lower circuit), HLL, NIIT, BSES, Hindalco, ITC and Novartis.
The cement stocks like India Cement, Grasim (lower circuit), Madras Cement, Kesoram Industries and Birla Corp were under selling pressure. Select auto & auto ancillary stocks like Bajaj Auto, Escorts, Mahindra & Mahindra, Punjab Tractors, TVS Suzuki, Ashok Leyland (all hit the upper circuit), Apollo Tyres, Bharat Forge and Exide Industries were in the limelight. Select banking & finance stocks like ICICI, IDBI, IDBI Bank, SBI, HDFC and Global Tele were in demand. The refinery, and select pharma stocks were under selling pressure. The FMCG stocks like Cadbury, HLL, P&G, Trent, Henkel Spic, McDowell, United Breweries and ITC lost at the end of the day. The telecom and media stocks have lost significantly. The software stocks witnessed a mixed trend.
The major gainers of the day were VSNL, Software Solution, Dr Reddy, Polaris Software, HCL Infosys, MICO, DSQ Software, Himachal Futuristic, Information Technologies, Sterlite, Elbee, Indian Hume Pipe (all have hit the upper circuit), Nirma, PSI Data, Cipla, Leading, Hughes Software and Dabur India. The major losers of the day were Zee, Shyam Telecom, BFL Software, Fujitsiu ICIM, Sri Adhikari, Crest Communication, Max India, Reliance Capital, Hikal Chemicals, Odyssey Technologies, ITW Signode, Atco Industrie, Citicorp(all have hit the lower circuit), VisualSoft, Ravlgaon Sugar, Satyam, Wipro, Zandu Pharma, Gramophone, Mastek, Silverline and Global Tele.
The NSE Nifty closed at 1559.20, down by 3.00 (-0.2%) points. The CSE closed at 124.57, down by 0.20 points (-0.2%) and DSE closed at 975.02, down by 20.65 points (-2.1%). |
