I have always wondered about this. You don't lose if you don't sell. Why would any one sell when the stock is going down? The only thing I can think of is, its not the individuals that cause the huge sell off. Could it be the institutions selling off in a huge way to maintain their returns performance and buy later on dips. Or do they have some sell programs which automatically sell when a stock dips below certain %?
