The real reason why DDR is no competitor to Rambus for mainstream PC is simple

There is no Intel Desktop DDR chipset in production.

ok just in case you didn't hear I'll say it again

THERE IS NO INTEL DESKTOP DDR CHIPSET IN PRODUCTION.

If there is no chipset there will be no motherboards, unless the motherboard manufacturers roll their own chipset, and that takes time, (and legal and technical co-operation from Intel) - VIA who would be in the best position to do this are in litigation with Intel, so I dont think they can do it. Micron might just be crazy enough to bet the company on this, but they had better not slip up with it or it will be the end of them).

The DDR cheerleaders need to understand just how much it costs to build infrastructure around a paradigm shift in technology. PC manufacturers will follow Intel's lead, they can't afford to back both horses.
