NorthPoint Unveils New Channel Distribution Program; NorthPoint’s
‘Reach’ Program Enables Certified Partners to Sell Broadband Services
Wholesale
SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 21, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- NorthPoint Communications (Nasdaq: NPNT) today announced a new program that will allow more service providers to offer NorthPoint DSL. NorthPoint partners @Work©, the business-to-business division of Excite@Home, MegaPath Networks Inc. and Zyan have been certified to sell NorthPoint DSL to smaller service providers via NorthPoint’s Reach program. Additional Reach partners will be added later this year, allowing NorthPoint to more aggressively serve the 34 million homes and businesses its U.S. network passes today.
“While NorthPoint continues to rapidly expand our DSL-based broadband network around the globe, we have created innovative new channels to deliver services to more partners and subscribers,” said Liz Fetter, NorthPoint’s president and CEO. “Through the Reach program, we believe NorthPoint will be able to deliver the benefits of broadband to many more customers quickly and efficiently.”
Reaching New Channels
The NorthPoint Reach program, developed in conjunction with leading partners including @Work, enables both NorthPoint and its partners to reach new subscribers through a variety of channels, including content portals, non-facilities resellers, value-added resellers (VARs), application service providers (ASPs) and systems integrators. Traditionally, these service providers were required to maintain network facilities and physically interconnect with NorthPoint to provide broadband services. By leveraging the buying power and networks of NorthPoint’s certified Reach partners, these “downstream” service providers can easily add broadband services to their portfolio of value-added services and customer care. The Reach program also extends the power of NorthPoint’s state-of-the-art OSS systems to both its certified partners as well as “downstream” partners.
“As a founding partner of the Reach Program, @Work’s objective is to enable our non-facilities based partners to offer broadband services to their business customers,” said Mark O’Leary, senior vice president and general manager of @Work, Excite@Home. “The Reach program not only provides @Work the automated tools and support needed to help our partners, but also enables us to extend into new markets.”
According to Dataquest, 40 percent of the business Internet service provider (ISP) market is served by smaller local and regional ISPs. The Reach program’s two-tier distribution model allows NorthPoint to target this estimated group of 5,000 small ISPs, resellers and non-facilities providers operating in the U.S., who because of their small customer base or lack of physical facilities, are not able to offer broadband services through a direct relationship with NorthPoint.
Certified Reach Partners
NorthPoint’s certified Reach partners will gain access to tools, resources and support to target the distribution of NorthPoint services to this untapped market for broadband services. And, by integrating Reach partners into NorthPoint’s automated order management tools such as eConnect and the Partner Resource Center, NorthPoint will facilitated the efficient ordering and provisioning of services, making it faster and easier for partners to turn up more DSL customers.
“We’re honored to have been chosen by NorthPoint to implement their Reach program,” said Harry M. Taxin, president and CEO of MegaPath Networks. “Small ISPs are looking for ways to maximize their services to customers. NorthPoint’s DSL services allow us to provide them with the perfect combination of technology and customer service, along with a broad variety of value-added services.
MegaPath has built its reputation on providing the best proactive customer
service in the industry, and we’re pleased NorthPoint has recognized our acumen
by selecting us for their timely program.”

“Zyan is committed to serving customers efficiently and effectively,” said Crosby Haffner, president and chief operating officer of Zyan Communications, Inc. “The Reach program allows us to facilitate transport and network connectivity to our facilities-based customers, delivering a more cost-effective broadband solution and therefore a higher level of satisfaction.”
