KIS, <Just because they provide support for RDRAM, doesnt mean they "are throwing their weight behind it".. No more than including an ISA slot means they are throwing their weight behind ISA.>

In the same way, we can pooh-pooh the support for DDR. Just because OEMs are providing support for DDR (whenever it arrives) doesn't mean they "are throwing their weight behind it."

The point is that for a technology that you claim is on its way out, there seems to be a lot of support for it. And that's not legacy support, unlike the support for ISA. "Legacy" usually means that the technology has been around for a long time and is more or less a de facto standard. "Legacy" also means that a lot of infrastructure surrounding that technology has already been established to the point where getting rid of that infrastructure is painful.

Rambus is far from being legacy. It's a relatively new technology. The infrastructure definitely has not been built up yet. That means the manufacturers can easily walk away from Rambus without much hassle, unlike ISA which can't easily be dumped no matter how much they try. But the fact that the manufacturers ARE supporting Rambus is an testament to the real advantages that Rambus provides, despite the high hurdles that must be overcome.

By the way, if you're currently short RMBS, let us know when you cover. I'm looking for a good time to buy.
