**OT** Special Effect: Global Tele's project-happy

gtl.co.in

GLOBAL Telesystems' joint venture with Enron Corporation has reportedly bagged a Rs 500-crore ($110 mln) contract from Maharashtra State Electricity Board for installing a fibre optic grid. It is learnt that while the order was bid by the JV, execution of the order would be carried out by Global Tele. This would add to the order book position of Global Tele, boosting its bottomline in turn.

More important is the fact that Global Tele's expertise has been established with global player Enron joining hands with it. This would also mark Global's entry into high-value technology. Also, Global would have a hand in implementing Enron's Intelligent Network, it's proprietary broadband technology. This will also help Global implement broadband technology in other networks as well. Global has already tied up with Crest Communications for providing and sourcing entertainment, games and other services.

Broadband technology would also play a part in the JV with Crest Communications. Global Tele will also help members in setting up and managing broadband networks. Broadband technology helps carry network-hosted applications and entertainment content, such as video conferencing and distant learning.
