Met Globalstar people (whose identity will not be disclosed here) in Europe today. The phones are indeed shipping with the ETSI approved software. They could not tell me how many Ericsson phones are produced, just the number was enough for the current market? Ericsson distribute through their own channel which means the satellite phones will become available in places selling normal GSM phones. I borrowed one of the non approved phones and made several calls. The phone is very nice and works well even though it was not the final production unit. There was still something strange with the internal clock and menu functions I could figure out. They told me that problems experienced the past few months with dropped calls and long accuistion times was due to the limited number of operating satellites. Now when the constellation is finally completed everything seems to work very well. There are still some issues about roaming, enormous work is taking place in testing and connecting the different terrestrial operators to gateways. In all this looks to be on a very good track and these people are very excited about their creation. For those of you who think the Ericsson phone is just vaporware I say, you are up for a surprise. ss
