Final numbers - using a USPIX hedge to bring an aggressive
mutual fund portfolio beta down to 0.5 to ride out the
high risk in the market at the beginning of the year:

fund beta gain
PBHEX 1.62 46% 4556 (theoretic 10k start)
MNNCX 1.87 23% 2337 (theoretic 10k start)
RSEGX 1.56 29% 2910 (theoretic 10k start)
VWEGX 1.41 26% 2599 (theoretic 10k start)
USPIX -2.90 -43% -4705 (need 11K to get beta 0.5)

result 15% 7697
NASDAQ 16%

End up under performing the NASDAQ by 1%. Cheap insurance !

In my very humble opinion, I believe that the storm has
passed for now - so the hedge is gone. I'll be glad to
do the same exercise the next time the market looks risky.

FWIW, Dick
