Here's another possible avenue to explore.

We've all been assuming that if Suzanne was killed by someone she knew, then that person's motivation for murdering her was of recent origin. That is: that "something" happened, on the Friday or shortly before. The killing might have been planned (at least in the sense that the assassin took a knife with him, hoping for an opportunity) or it might have been impulsive.

Even so, if we assume the murder was committed by a friend or acquaintance, the killer's motive may have had roots going back some time.

What did Suzanne do the summer before her senior year? Did she go home to Germany? Did she vacation with friends? Did she take a job or do an internship in another city? Or did she stay in New Haven? If the last, that might account for why she had the off-campus apartment, which she'd have needed in the summer.

If she was in New Haven all summer, what was she doing, and with whom was she doing it?
