jan.m, I could get to mamasan2000's post about XML and the cautionary forecast about BEAS. (post on Yahoo board 14054)

messages.yahoo.com

I agree that XML will become more dominant and BEAS should accommodate it more. To what ever extent XML becomes useful today .. BEAS is incorporating it into their products. BEAS' products have much more advanced data encapsulation techniques that can easily accommodate XML evolution.

I would argue about mamasan's caution regarding BEAS' performance. Yes, revenues are important and they should grow at 25% or higher. That is to prove to be the leader in the fast-growing market segment.
Though a leader technologically, BEAS still does not command the same reputation as Oracle does in RDBMS segment today. This is similar to the age, around 1995, when Sybase was also a good contender in the db segment. Though Oracle was constantly picking up at that time, they still faced considerable competition. Today, Oracle is not a choice but is given!
BEAS has not reached that stage yet! I expect 2001 to be that year .. with hundreds of succesful Weblogic-based e-commerce companies and enterprise WLE implementations.
And BEAS is no way to be compared to Novell. I've seen both companies.

All enthusiasm aside .. I am also waiting to see BEAS to become the Cisco that they are capable of. Cisco did not happen automatically. It did because of Chambers and a solid culture. I am willing to ride a smooth curve, but it better be steep over a period of 2 years.
