I fully expected McCain to do better since there's no motivation for Bush supporters to go to the polls since the nomination is already a lock. btw, ABCNews pulled the primary vote apart and found that McCain attracted relatively few new voters. Among "new" voters, 55% went to McCain and 45% went for Bush. Both represent little more than a million+ each.
