MVIS

Unclewest you already owned them through CREE! I've been looking at them as well. Here is what I like about them:
assuming ever brighter light sources become available (high output leds and solidstate laser diodes) MVIS can actually shrink their device. This in turn makes it easier to mount and then cheaper to produce. Alternatively they can drive up the resolution but I think there are very few human interface apps that would require it.

You can not do this with OLED directly nor say something like Kopin's displays. I see the current display technologies as the weak link in the complete solution for portable devices with visual human interfaces ( the WAP phone displays are a joke for email). I'm trying to formulate in my mind whether this is the discontinuous innovation that will enable practical portable devices. I leaning to the affirmative, but it is hard to assess because there is so much activity in the display area at the moment.

It appears they may indeed have proprietary control on their architecture. From the conference call it seems that they intend to license at least some of the high volume applications to third parties. To me that infers that the architecture may become quasi open.

Clearly the value chain is just starting to build (predominantly defense but starting positions in Medical)but should become more visible over the next 12-18 months.

The other thing I like is that the technology can be extended to other completely different apps such as printing. (The latest conf call was instructional).

What are your thoughts?

PS Frank, sorry for cluttering the thread but I posted here since I think MVIS may just have the right genes even if it is too early to tell.
