Wabtec and QUALCOMM Form Strategic Alliance to Market QUALCOMM's OmniTRACS Mobile Information Management System for the Rail Industry
WILMERDING, Pa., March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Wabtec Railway Electronics, a division of Wabtec Corporation (NYSE: WAB - news), and QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions, a division of QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news), today announced an agreement to sell and support QUALCOMM's OmniTRACS© satellite communications modem (SCM).
Under the terms of the agreement, Wabtec Railway Electronics will market, sell and support the SCM in conjunction with its own products. In addition, the new alliance will enable Wabtec Railway Electronics to build and deploy next generation wireless solutions supporting a variety of current and future systems and services for the rail industry.
QUALCOMM's SCM provides a communications link to onboard devices and uses an integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) for positioning. Messages and position reports are processed through QUALCOMM's state-of-the-art Network Management Center.

QUALCOMM'S OmniTRACS system is a satellite-based mobile communications and tracking service that provides real-time messaging and position reporting between fleets and their operations centers. Messages are sent, via satellite, through QUALCOMM's Network Management Center to dispatch centers throughout the continental United States.
