jerry, I believe that the possibility of EMC identifying a NAS technology that we have not heard about is very remote.

I believe that the threat of EMC's space by IBM has gotten their attention to the detriment of their NAS development efforts. The IBM threat is more immediate and threatens their existing customer base. The NTAP threat is in competing for new business with future customers at lower margins, so seems less urgent. (EMC customers are probably being courted by IBM very heavily and forecasted upgrade/addon sales are in jeopardy, perhaps.)

WRT NTAP being a Gorilla; I am certain that NTAP rules the NAS market. What I am not certain about is if they are a KING or are a Gorilla. I started out believing (up until the founding of this thread 1 year ago) that they were a Gorilla; then I became convinced that they were a King. Now, with all of the work they have done in building product features and value chains on the patented software features, I am beginning to believe that they are a Gorilla. I am not prepared to defend that position yet, however.

Boy, is this a classic Innovators' Dilemma?!
