Curtis, understand something about the Carrier market. Standards are not as important. While IEEEE group is dickering around with standards, what matters most is CRITICAL MASS. Get the products out, install them and if you have enough market share - especially in the backbone, PRESTO, guess who's technology becomes the standard? (Microsoft rings a bell Curtis?)
Besides almost everything is proprietary in the Carrier market and why do you assume you cannot make systems interoperable because they are proprietary? Do you think DMS (a proprietary C.O. switch from NT) is not interoperable?
The key for NT is to ship, ship, ship, install, install, install, and control the all-important backbone. Everything else is secondary.
