Hello zwolff,

This is a facinating announcement, and I have to say that this will help to determine if Novell is moving on the right track with their identity management strategy ... IMHO.

This is the first company, PassLogix, that I have seen that is moving in the "right" direction, IMHO, in building the infrastructure for successful, and private, identity management.

Core to their solution are two concepts which I recognized, a long time ago: Personal Directory/Storage, and Membership Application.

If you review their web site you'll see that they have a downloadable component used by the user to securely store their personal information. IMHO, this better be a Novell Personal Directory in the near future. The local program stores your personal information encrypted on your machine, and then provides the brokering of your identity information between you and the web site.

The second part is a file that they want on any supporting web site that contains the "registration information" that is required for the user to "join" or become a member. (These are my terms ...)

This file is no doubt a form of "Member Application" which would provide the fields necessary to complete some sort of exchange of goods and services ...

The only issue that I have, is that I'm not sure that Novell recognizes where they will need to involve themselves to "win" at this partnership. I believe that this will be good for Novell if they are able to produce and deliver the "full featured Personal Directory" that becomes the user's personal identity and membership store. And I believe that they need to ensure that the "file" that will be used by the web sites is using an open-standard format ...

I really enjoy reading this announcement and learning more about PassLogix since it validates my architecture and demonstrates that if you wait long enough, common sense prevails ... ;-)
