Thanks to Battlax for letting me know that 950 MHz Athlons will apparently be available as early as Saturday, according to this Japanese site. The parts themselves will retail for 114,800 Yen, or around US$1,083.
Pentium III 850 sales started last week in Japan according to this link. The chip is selling for around $1,036 (109,800 Yen)."

"Intel Updates Processor Spec (INTEL)

Thanks to Idiot for mailing me about Intel's latest update to their Pentium III Processor Specification. The document has a great deal of information regarding the different steppings and bug-fixes for the Pentium III. Something I found interesting was that the 1 GHz Pentium IIIs are not capable of SMP operation according to page 18. I can only speculate this is due to the special cooling requirements imposed by the chip."

By the way, I am curious... Do you still think that AMD was humiliated by Intel's 1GHz release <G>
