I was performing some minor cleanup on my account about 10 days ago. Sold some small holdings and options, bought a small speculative position .... My broker suggested I get rid of ETEK at that time and said it would be "volitile". I told him I was sure it would track JDSU and I was in accumulate mode, not sell mode. Today I think he had some forwarning, perhaps Alcatel had discussed their plan with the major brokerages.

My broker never really explains his suggestions or comments. In the last few years I have managed to play in some games where really big money was involved and while nobody has explained the rules to me it has become obvious that there is a lot more going on behind the curtains than on the stage. Something is going on, but I can't say whether it's good or bad for ETEK. (I also jumped out of ORCL at 1/4 it's price and RMBS at less than 1/4 it's price when funny things were happening, so sometimes the funny things are designed to separate you from your stock before the next big deal). I've jumped out of others like LU at times when I was glad I did.

I guess my point is that I never lost money jumping out of a good stock too early while jumping out of a problem too late can have a significant impact.
