Phil, The word tyhee is "Lost at Sea" Old East Norse of North Germanic, European.

Nova, Public TV "Lost at Sea: The Search for Longitude"

Tells the story of the 18th-centurty clockmaker who developed
a chronometer needed to measure longitude at sea.

The latitude was easily determined with a temperature gage when used
with a warming or cooling of the air or water temperature to determine
if going towards the north or south pole.

Hopefully I am not the only one forgetting which is which.

latitude - Angular distance North or South of the equator.

longitude - Angular distance East or West measured with respect
to the prime meridian at Greensandwich, England home of the
Earl of Sandwich.
